Sadaf read Natural Sciences (majoring in Molecular Cell Biology) at Newnham College, University of Cambridge, obtaining a B. A Honours and M.A. She was awarded an undergraduate Commonwealth Trust Scholarship, and is a fellow of Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. She completed a further MSc in Biotechnology at Brac University, Bangladesh (2007). She has done work on bioinformatics and transposons in the jute genome corresponding with acquiring stress-resistant genetic variants.

She has been active in promoting links between biotechnology and industry for over a decade, and encouraging investment in science, and women in science. Her areas of interest are Molecular Cell Biology, medical biotechnology and bioinformatics.
